One of the few drawbacks to living in San Luis Obispo County is the lack of a decent airport.  There would be no easy travel to Reno.  We were going to need to drive.  I’m not going to lie; the drive up there is a long one.  To get there Doug and I drove up I-5 and cut over on the 80.  We visited with a couple clients in Sacramento to break up the drive.  The 80 between Reno and Sacramento is beautiful.   As luck would have it this weekend was also the Street Vibrations Fall Rally, a very large Harley Davidson event which brings thousands of bikers into Reno.  We knew right away this was going to be an entertaining weekend.

Friday evening began with a meet and greet cocktail party.  We saw many familiar faces and met some new ones.  Meeting Pete Lazetich, a former San Diego Charger great and owner of Reno Carson Messenger was really cool.  I am pretty much nuts when it comes to Chargers football.  Listening to Pete sing some Johnny Cash was something I’ll remember for a long time.

The show itself was one of our best.  Right away we had new prospective clients looking at our products.  They were impressed with the way our Process Service software handled GPS; billing, statements, and they loved the Smartphone apps for their process servers.  Our dispatch and order tracking mechanisms also impressed.  I don’t remember the last time our booth was this busy at a show.   Our Investigations program was also a hit with the many private investigators that attended the show, as too was Wincopy our Subpoena preparation-mobile photocopy program with those who do that type of work.

We also had the best schwag.  Pens, magnets, we didn’t go there.  Instead I had my wife come up with some products from her skin care line.  Oluvskin is her skin care line; the primary ingredient is our extra virgin olive oil.  We gave out soaps, chap stick, and olive oil with our logo on the packaging.  People loved it!

Another highlight of our trip was our Saturday night dinner adventure.  We had the cabbie bring us to one of the best steakhouses in Reno.  Since neither Doug nor I were patient enough to wait two hours to be seated, we ended up going to Ichiban, a Japanese steakhouse.  As luck would have it we would share our table with a woman who’s loosely connected to our industry.  She writes software for medical facilities.  We’d also share the table with some boisterous semi-drunk partiers.  When we weren’t laughing we were enjoying some amazing cuisine.  Our chef was an aboslute ninja.  He was amazing!

Sunday’s drive home was long, thank goodness for Sirius NFL radio.  It took two and a half NFL games including a Chargers win to get home.  Although we’ll miss Reno, we were happy to learn that next year’s show will be in Anaheim which is  much closer.  See you guys next year!

Not long ago, Tristar decided we would attend to attend more conferences and let the rest of the Country know what so many of our California clients already know, that we have some cool stuff.  Being a California based company with an ever watchful eye on Calspro and other goings on in California.  I decided that the APSA conference in Phoenix would be a great venue for us.   The brief flight from our local airport to Phoenix takes less than Ninety Minutes, couldn’t ask for an easier trip.  In fact I’ll spend more time commuting to the calspro!  I couldn’t help but crack a smile while thinking of Doug, he elected to head to New York, for NYPPSA.  To do so he drove to LA(4 hours) and took a red eye flight across the country.  Talk about a brutal trip, better him than me!

Back to APSA, after landing Friday afternoon I visited an important client in Downtown Phoenix.  Beautiful city by the way, I had never driven by Chase Field before, I will make an effort to catch a baseball game next time I’m in town.  After visiting with my client I met my sister and her family at one of Guy Feiri’s “dinners drive ins and dives” places.  We ate at Chino Bandido, some kind of Mexican/Jamaican fusion, it was great!

After dinner I checked in to the hotel and began meeting several of the APSA board members and attendees.   It didn’t take long for me to feel comfortable and relaxed with this group.  The weren’t pretentious, they are genuinely good people.  We had a couple drinks and called it an early night after comparing the pros and cons of America’s got talent vs. Man vs. Wild.  Good times!

Saturday was convention day.   In spite of the fact that my fancy table cover didn’t arrive I was able to set up and display our process serving software and other products to a wide variety of  prospective clients.  APSA did a great job of promoting their vendors and the board members.  So Larry, Wayne, Tom, Luis, Patty, and Ron, thanks for going out of your way to make sure I felt comfortable!  I appreciate it!

After the conference I met up with an old buddy and hit up another one of Guy Fieri’s winners.  This place was a German restaurant in Glendale called “Haus Murpheys”.   I love German food and often try to find the best German food when I travel. (Thanks Yelp!).  This place was top notch and probably the best German food I have ever eaten, I highly recommend it.  Das ist gut!

Backups, Backups, Backups!

Recently Tristar audited several of our customers and noted that they had not backed up their systems in a long time.  Backups are your responsibility and should be run nightly with a special backup at the end of each month.  If your system were to crash, your most valuable asset (data) may be lost if you don’t back up your system properly.  Tristar is responsible for helping you restore your data. Process Server’s WebSite

Tristar Software is pleased to announce our new Process Server’s web site. Your server’s can now log into a secure site, pull a list of jobs assigned to them, view/print the work order and the documents to serve. Update diligence and enter a final status on their jobs.  Your office staff can then review their entries and quickly import the information without having to rekey.  You get an active list of status and finals that can help speed your proof production and increase the efficiency of your office staff. The server site includes simple diligence (pulled from a drop down) to cut down on spelling errors.  The server can also attach geo coded pictures to the diligence and the final status. Tristar has added these images to our order and can publish them to the client’s website.

Alpha Micro Support Ending

Tristar Software is terminating our support for Alpha Micro systems and software as of 1/1/2012.  All software contracts will be terminated at that point. Tristar has carried the Alpha Micro system and software for 12 years now.  Our windows based solution is available and ready for implementation. E-Pouch  System Launched
